Final Frontier Design Invites You to Join its Commercial Spacesuit Test Team
Press Release December 5, 2014
Final Frontier Design (FFD) is proud to announce our most recent partnership with Teachers in Space, Inc. (TIS), Zero Gravity Corporation, and the Space Angels Network (SAN) to conduct zero-gravity flight training with FFD’s 3G Mark III space suit. And we’re inviting the general public to apply to participate.
Slated for April 2015, this experimental flight would mark a unique milestone for FFD as the first zero-gravity test for our commercial spacesuit technology. In line with our ongoing mission to broaden the experience of space exploration and technology, applicants can enter for a chance to join the team and test FFD’s commercial spacesuit, pressure garment, fire-proof garment, anti-g pants, and a biosensor system.
Contestants are asked to write an essay on “Why Space and Science Education Matter” and answer a few questions about their physical fitness and personal commitment to human space exploration. A panel of judges drawn from the space industry, government, and academia will select the one lucky winner.
The contest is live, currently accepting applications between now and December 31, 2014. Application fee is $250. All applicants will receive a classroom-suitable Spacesuit Owner’s Manual, available exclusively from Final Frontier Design. The winner will be reimbursed up to $500 for travel and join the test team on a 20-parabola research profile Zero G flight (retail value of the flight alone is $6500).
About Final Frontier Design
Final Frontier Design was founded in 2010 by designer Ted Southern and his partner Nikolay Moiseev, a Russian mechanical engineer, with the intent to craft affordable yet highly capable spacesuits for a burgeoning commercial spaceflight industry. Southern is a sculptor and costume fabricator in NYC; Moiseev boasts 20 years of experience working as a space suit designer for Zvezda, Russia’s national space suit supplier. They produced a winning entry in the Astronaut Glove Challenge 2009, pulling in $100,000 in prize money for their pressurized glove technology.
